For books as for movies
Woody Allen via Scarlett Johansson, in one of the weekend papers:
You know, sometimes you make 'em and they don't work, other times you make 'em and they work, but you just keep truckin' along.

I do wish Woody would quit truckin'. He hasn't made a decent film since Purple Rose of Cairo.
I was carefully not saying anything about the movies. I just liked the doggedness.
I liked "Bullets Over Broadway." Which he was not in.
The odds of a Woody Allen film not being vomitous does go up if he's not in said movie. And yet they don't go up enough.
That's because he's still there in some form - his characters are just bits of Woody's psyche being moved around in a Jungian sand tray. Oops, I wasn't going to say anything about the movies.
i can't take woody allen's movies seriously. WHAT new york city are they set in? in what universe are stunning women attracted to HIM???
Exactly - it's so obviously his own (very small) personal universe, with the same not-very-interesting fantasy going on every time.
